It’s wonderful to see small South Australian charities doing big things, particularly when it’s helping to create safer, stronger and more connected communities.
The Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation (RRSF) and the City of Onkaparinga have teamed up with the State Government and the local community to deliver a multimillion dollar sports and recreation hub in Adelaide’s south.
Impact 100 SA members might remember that the RRSF was shortlisted for our $100,000 in 2018 but withdrew when the Foundation couldn’t be assured of State Government funding in order for the project to proceed.
The Foundation is to be congratulated for its vision and tireless campaign to seek support for a sports and community hub in Christies Downs. The site will be used as a base for the Foundation’s free sports coaching and mentoring programs for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. This project is the third for the Foundation: the other two being Secombe Street Reserve at Elizabeth Grove and Rajah Street at Oaklands Grove.
Work on the $3.1 million Morton Road Sports and Community Hub is expected to commence in early 2021 and will include a skate park, multi-use tennis /netball courts, adventure play space, BBQ facilities and more.
