Impact100SA members and friends were invited to visit the Backpack 4 SA Kids warehouse on Sunday 18 November to see the great work that is being undertaken by one of our former grant recipients.
Founder Rachael Zaltron, together with Board members Gavin Woolford and Kelly Barker gave an overview of the operations and also explained how our $100 000 grant had been utilised, along with the other support they had received from Impact in terms of advice, resources and access to further funding.
Impact100SA members then rolled up their sleeves and helped sort donations and then packed some backpacks for children requiring emergency care. Backpacks4SA Kids has helped 19 080 kids in need to date, but the demand keeps growing. Rachael also told us that she has to turn away valuable donations due to lack of space, and so is in need of a larger warehouse to accommodate donations. Please contact her if you are able to assist her.
Thank you to Rachael and team and to our generous Impact members who not only gave up their time but brought donations of clothing and gifts and worked to sort items and pack bags. Rachael wrote to thank members shortly after our visit and said “ It was a great morning and just after the last person left, we had an emergency call and 3 of the backpacks were taken to an emergency family. I hope I explained enough about the impact of successfully winning impact 100 and how amazing not only the funds are but the advice, resources and support are. “
