Recently, one of our members, Ed Peter from Duxton Capital, contacted our former chair Geoff Day OAM to ask him how Duxton Capital might be able to become a Corporate Supporter of Impact100 SA.
Geoff persuaded Ed to fund the cost of eight Leaders Institute Governance Masterclasses for our four finalist charities: Habitat for Humanity SA, HopeStreet, Childhood Cancer Association and St John’s Youth Services, knowing that the governance course would help these small charities become more sustainable and attract board members with greater experience.
Impact100 SA member and governance expert in SA, Alexandrea Cannon, conducted the Leaders Institute classes, also attended by Impact100 SA chair Kathryn House, and Management Committee member and executive officer of the Coopers Foundation and Management Committee member, Jasmin Barry-Keen.
Attendees from our charities sent messages of appreciation following the course:
“Good morning Kath, what a great day yesterday, I came away with so many “take aways”, items to reflect on and additional readings to increase my knowledge and expertise. The Masterclass was so valuable, I would like to thank Impact100 and Ed Peter at Duxton Capital for making this opportunity available to SJYS, it has increased our capabilities and capacity. The additional opportunity to connect with 10 other individuals and organisations was an added bonus that has increased our networks leading to potential collaborations and partnerships.”
Nicole Chaplin, CEO, St John’s Youth Services
“… just following up to emphasise how worthwhile the opportunity to attend yesterday’s Governance Masterclass proved to be for Louise Hay and myself from Habitat for Humanity in South Australia. From our point of view the timing was perfect given that, as our newly appointed Executive Officer, Louise Hay had only accepted the role 48 hours beforehand!
Definitely one of the best short courses on governance that everyone on Boards could gain from. The beauty is that it only occupies a day and brings together managers, directors and chairs largely unknown to one another who get the opportunity to share experiences in a neutral and safe place and learn from one another in the very experienced hands of Alex.
The one-day short course run by Alexandrea Cannon offered an intelligent blend of evidence-based principles and a wealth of practical experience. I don’t recall any previous course I’ve done where the instructor had so thoroughly ‘walked the talk’. I also admire the way she ‘worked the room’ and drew on our own collective experience to identify what we expect from each other as managers, directors and chairs. And last but not least, Alex’s set of slides will be worth their weight in gold as an aide memoire.
So many thanks to Impact100 SA’s own governing body together with your membership for making our attendance possible.”
Blair Badcock, Chair, Habitat for Humanity SA
“I wanted to thank you and all of the people involved with Impact 100 for the opportunity to attend the Governance Masterclass at the Leaders’ Institute on Thursday. You were kind enough to sponsor my place via my directorship at St John’s Youth Services and this was such an unexpected opportunity after the stunning generosity of our grant funding. The practical learnings of the day will greatly enhance our governance and board practices but even more valuable was the opportunity to connect with others working in this space and looking to change the world together.”
Caroline Hurr, St John’s Youth Services
“I took so much away from yesterday’s masterclass. It was a perfect opportunity to learn and network with the everyone. The enthusiasm and energy in the room made for interesting and informative discussion. Thank you Alex, you’re a great facilitator keeping us all engaged throughout the day.”
