Talking Out Loud

Winner of one of our $100 000 grants last year, Talk Out Loud CEO Mary Galouzis contacted us recently, to thank Impact100 SA members for our grant and to update us on what they have been doing.

As members might recall, Talk Out Loud seeks to empower vulnerable young people to feel safe, heard, and included and encourages them to “talk out loud” about issues that are affecting them.

As part of their strategy to help young people develop their confidence to speak out, they run Youth Empowerment Camps, including their very first teens-only camp in the idyllic Adelaide Hills, coupled with perfect weather. This camp was camp #28 for Talk Out Loud Australia and Mary says it is one of her all-time favourite camps, and was a huge success largely due to the support from Impact100, noting the funding gave Talk Out Loud the means to treat the camp participants to a whole day at Woodhouse where they experienced a myriad of team building activities and where valuable bonding between participants occurred.

Mary said “A session of Djembe drumming from acclaimed Adelaide African Beats was also enjoyed and superb roast catering by G-SPIT on the Saturday night meant that our kitchen volunteers weren’t run off their feet, and for the very first time they had the opportunity to dine with us. I know I speak on everyone’s behalf when I say how transformative these experiences were for each and every young person who attended.”
